Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in strength within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the party reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Fans can anticipate learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
