The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz around the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
